Residential Access

All students are provided with an Access key for the front door

The internal turnstile is controlled via biometrics or Fingerprints

All Residences has a strict 00h00 – 06h00 curfew

Students issued with warnings will have a different curfew.

Please read the Student Booklet emailed to all Students upon registering.

 NOTE: NO VISITORS ARE PERMITTED

CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION (CCTV)

All common areas of the residences are fitted with CCTV camera’s

The CCTV footage may be released together with access logs to any party that

Northville SA deems necessary

This evidence may then be used against any transgressors

NOTE: BATHROOMS AND ROOMS ARE NOT MONITORED

STUDENT ROOMS

Each room has a set of furniture that is to remain in the room

This property becomes the Students Responsibility and students are liable for

Damages

The Rooms are to be kept clean and cleaned regularly and will be inspected

No furniture may be removed from the room

All breakages must be reported to Northville SA on the Whatsapp Line

No smoking is permitted in the room, covering of detectors is a serious offence

NOTE: NORTHVILLE SA STAFF MAY INSPECT ANY STUDENTS ROOM FOR

INSPECTIONS OR REPAIRS WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE (STAFF WILL KNOCK AND

ANNOUNCE THEMSELVES)

BANNED ITEMS

No Weapons are allowed

No Alcohol is allowed

No Heaters, Kettles, Snackwhich Machines, Etc. is allowed

No Cooking facilities is allowed, Hot Plates, Etc.

No Microwaves, Toasters, etc. is allowed

No Drugs is allowed

No Okka pipes is allowed

NOTE: A SMALL BAR FRIDGE FOR THE ROOM IS PERMITTED AS WELL AS AN

APPROVED SABS ELECTRIC BLANKET

WRITTEN WARNINGS

Study areas are quiet areas, at all times

Entertainment area noise levels must be kept down as to not disturb other

Students

No Alcohol permitted on premises. Drunk and disorderly behavior is a Final

Warning

No Smoking inside residences. Smoking areas outside are available.

No Illegal substances and Weapons (Suspected drug abuse will result in a drug

test and failure thereof would be termination of the lease)

NOTE: ADHERE TO STAFF INSTRUCTIONS, WHO WILL GUIDE YOU. FAILURE TO DO SO WOULD RESULT IN A WARNING.

GENERAL

No Occu pipes or smoking apparatus are allowed

Initiation of students are not permitted.

No Pets allowed

Outside of Residences, safety is the students responsibility

Do not display valuable Items

Walk in Groups where possible

Be observant and aware of surroundings

NOTE: ALL NSFAS STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO VACATE THE RESIDENCE

24HRS AFTER COMPLETION OF LAST EXAM

FINE OFFENCES

Tampering with electrical fixtures, appliances, cameras, fire equipment or

building features – R250 Fine

Lost key / Missing Pinboard– R100 per key

Lost or damaged combination Lock – R600

Non-Resident granted access – R250 per visitor

Theft of any item from communal fridges and freezers – R350

Dirty Room – R50 per person

Lost Bin – R150

Student Room Damages – The cost of repairs for damages.

NOTE: ALL FINES ARE DUE UPON RECEIVING ONE

STUDENT COMPLAINTS

General repair complaints may be reported via the Northville SA Whatsapp

General Queries or general complaints to be directed to the Residence House

Committee, who are to be elected with assistance from the Northville Student

Liaison Officer

Serious Complaints that require investigation must be done via a Complaints

Form to be handed to the Residence House Committee, who will in turn liaise

with the Northville Student Liaison Officer

The Northville Student Liaison Officer will arrange regular meetings with the

appointed Residence House Committee members

NOTE: IF COMPLAINTS FORMS ARE NOT HANDED TO THE RESIDENCE HOUSE

COMMITTEE FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE NORTHVILLE STUDENT LIAISON

OFFICER, IT WILL NOT BE ATTENDED TO.

OFFENSES THAT COULD RESULT IN THE

TERMINATION OF LEASE AGREEMENTS

Disobeying direct instructions from Northville SA Staff

Committing an Offense when already on a Final Warning

Theft, Vandalism, Stealing

Criminal Charges – To be disclosed immediately if Charged with a Crime and

Northville SA management will decide if applicable

Not Disclosing all Facts upon registration with Northville SA

Possession of Illegal Substances, Refusing to undergo a Drug Test or Failing a

Drug Test

NOTE: LEASE TERMINATION APPEALS NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED WITHIN

24HRS WITH REASONS AS TO WHY IT SHOULD NOT BE UPHELD

NOTE: A STUDENT WHOSE ACTIONS ENDANGER THE LIVES OF OTHERS

WARNING PROCEDURES

A student receiving a warning, will have biometric access suspended and only

be permitted gate access from 07:00am – 18:00pm

All required information will be listed on the warning, which students are

required to accept and sign if in agreement that the offence was committed

as per House Rules.

Should students not agree, a meeting is to be arranged with the Northville SA

disciplinary officer, who will then present all evidence and record all

proceedings via audio and camera in the interview room.

A final decision will then be made in terms of the Student Code of Conduct

and whether the warning is to be upheld or set aside. Any false testimony

could lead to a more severe warning or lease termination.

NOTE: HOUSE RULES ARE STRICTLY ENFORCED, WITHOUT ANY DEVIATIONS

EXIT PROCEDURES

A student having written the last exam for the Trimester, Semester or Annual,

must complete an Exit Form

Choose one Section and complete the form

Either you are returning

Or You will not be Returning

The Key is to be returned, Combination Lock placed on the door and all

belongings removed. No belongings may be left behind.

The room will be inspected for cleanliness

The Office will then Check Student Records, etc. Access as well as Wifi Code

will be terminated.

NOTE: IF NO EXIT FORM IS RECEIVED OR A FINE IS OUTSTANDING,

NO SPACE AS A RETURNING STUDENT WILL BE KEPT
