Microwave Usage Rules
To ensure the microwave remains clean, safe, and available for everyone, please follow these rules:
- Use microwave-safe containers only.
- Do not use metal, aluminium foil, or containers with metallic trim.
- Cover your food.
- Use a microwave-safe lid or paper towel to prevent splatters.
- Do not heat sealed containers.
- Open lids slightly to allow steam to escape.
- Do not microwave eggs in their shells.
- They may explode and damage the microwave.
- Stay nearby while heating your food.
- Never leave the microwave unattended during use.
- Keep heating times reasonable.
- Heat food in short intervals and stir when necessary to avoid overheating.
- Clean up immediately after use.
- Wipe up any spills or splatters inside and outside the microwave.
- Remove your food promptly.
- Do not leave food inside the microwave after it has finished heating.
- Do not use the microwave if it is empty.
- Running an empty microwave can damage the appliance.
- Do not force the door open or slam it shut.
- Close the door gently to prevent damage.
- Report any faults immediately.
- If the microwave sparks, smells unusual, or is not working properly, stop using it and notify Residence Management.
- Be considerate of others.
- Avoid heating foods with strong or unpleasant odours in shared kitchens.
- No misuse of the microwave.
- Do not dry clothing, heat non-food items, or use the microwave for anything other than preparing food and beverages.
- Leave the microwave clean and ready for the next person.
- The kitchen should be left in the same or better condition than you found it.
